Give thanks to volunteer seniors

Seniors are being recognised for their selfless volunteering contributions as part of National Volunteer Week from 11 to 17 May.

National Volunteer Week is a time to thank volunteers for their inspiring contribution to the community.

“Research tells us that volunteering makes a difference in people’s happiness. It’s proven that volunteers are happier, healthier and even sleep better than those who don’t volunteer,” said Brett Williamson OAM, CEO, Volunteering Australia.

According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics, older Australians contributed the highest Seniors Volunteer Worknumber of volunteer hours of any age group.

In 2010, 2.9 million Australians over 65 years of age volunteered. By 2050, almost a quarter of the population will be aged over 65 years compared to 14 per cent now.
