NEW legislation to allow for ex-gratia payments for the cost of living stress is coming to Parliament.
The Bill, to be moved by Family First MLC Robert Brokenshire, will create new laws for issues affecting senior citizens, along with a Minister for Senior Citizens and a new senior citizens’ advisory council.
Mr Brokenshire said the laws were needed to protect seniors.
“Senior people have done their service to the state and deserve to have, in my opinion, recognition,” he said.
The Bill includes provisions for mandatory notification of abuse against senior citizens, and police checks for people in aged care.
Western suburbs resident Patricia Crawford said that”as a pensioner you manage, but you can’t have privileges”.
